She Reads Truth {a reflection on Ephesians}

I really felt like I got a lot from Galatians, but Ephesians just didn’t speak to me the same way. There were days of encouragement but overall I felt like a spectator to the those actually getting a worshipful experience.

Chapter 1

I am…

blessed (v3)

adopted (v5)

redeemed and forgiven (v7)

I am not worthy to even BEGIN to comprehend His never ending love for us. He sees time in a whole different manner and therefore knows what I will and will not do what I will succeed at and what I will fail at and yet He chooses EVERYONE with the goal of they choosing Him as well. No matter our transgression, He calls each of us. He forgives all sins with us accepting the grace of Christ and love of God.

Having the eyes of your heart enlightened that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you

v 18

He wants us to see the hope He has called us to. To the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (v18) and the immeasurable greatness of His power toward His believers. (v19)

FOCUS on living for God with immeasurable greatness, power, and faithfulness.

Chapter 2

we were dead…

in transgressions (v1)

in the sins we walked (v2)

we were the sons of disobedience (v2)

carrying out the desires of the flesh (v3)

by nature children of wrath (v3)

BUT GOD… (v4)

rich in mercy (v4)

with GREAT love He loved us (v4)

made us alive together with Christ (v5)

Memory Verse: For by grace you have been saved through faith. (v8)

For WE are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for Good Works. (v10)

Before Christ we were separated, alienated, a foreigner, from God. 2:12

He is our peace and He preached peace. 2:14,17

Through Christ we, Gentiles, have access in One Holy Spirit to God. We are no longer separated but fellow citizens built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone. 2:18-20

In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. 2:22

The LORD does not look at what man looks at…the LORD looks at the heart

1 Samuel 16:7b

Chapter 3

He came for everyone, not just the Jewish people. (v 6)

We as heirs of Jesus have the boldness and access with confidence through our faith in Him. (v 11-12)

Now unto Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us…(v 20)

NOW; take all the HOLY SPIRIT has done in your life and what He is doing in the church around you and all that I am just beginning to understand about Christ’s deep deep love

Live ‘unto Him’; take what you know of His love without boundaries and with the ‘power at work within us,’ live your life unto Him, today.

Chapter 4

ONE

(v.4) body of believers | Spirit {Holy} | Hope

(v.5) Lord | Faith | Baptism

(v.6) God | Father

But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. v 7

Becoming a believer and disciple of Christ does not omit us from ‘reverting’ back to our old self (v. 22), we have to dedicate ourselves to our new self and be renewed in the Spirit. (v. 23-24)

Do this:

Speak Truth (v.25)

Be Angry but do not Sin (v.26)

No Corrupting talk, only give grace to those who hear (v.29)

Put away bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, + malice (v.31)

Be kind and forgive one another (v.32)

Chapter 5

Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children and walk in love… (v.1-2)

AWAKE, o sleeper,

and arise from the DEAD

and Christ will shine on you. (v.14)

as followers of Christ we are children of light in a world of darkness. (v.8)

Submitting to ONE ANOTHER out of reverence to Christ. (v.21)

Wives= respect your husband as you respect the LORD (v.22)

God blessed them… (Genesis 1:28)

before the fall we were equals

Husbands= LOVE your wife, the same way Christ loved the church…sanctify hercleanse her…by washing with the Word…and present her to himself in splendor…so she might be holy… (v. 25-32)

Chapter 6

Obey your parents in the Lord (v.1)

Bring up your children with discipline, and instruction in the LORD (v4)

Work with a sincere heart, as you would serve the LORD (v.5)

Masters (bosses), do the same to them (employees/slaves) knowing that he who is both their master and yours is in heaven and that there is no partiality with him (v.9)
