Sweet Texas Chili Recipe

This is my own recipe, I took ideas and suggestions from others I read in books and online.

Feeds 4-6, could easily be doubled to feed more.


1/2 lb ground chuck

1/2 lb pan sausage

1/2 cup onion, chopped

1 small green bell pepper, chopped

1 clove of garlic, chopped

1/2 package of chili seasoning

2 tomato sauces* (10 oz) 

(+2 cans full of water)

1 small can tomato paste*

1 can diced tomato*

1/2 can of root beer

1 tablespoon of Brown Sugar

1 can Garbanzo beans (drained)

*You can use the italian seasoned tomato products for more flavor.

1) Cook beef and sausage in skillet with onion, bell paper and garlic. Drain off grease.

2) Add to kettle and add next 6 ingredients (in RED) and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally

3) Add brown Sugar and simmer another 20 minutes.

4) Add Garbanzo beans, Simmer 15 minutes. {if it isn’t sweet enough add more brown sugar…}

Add Mesa Four or Corn meal to thicken if necessary.

Top with Sour Cream, Cilantro, cheddar cheese or guacamole
